Scope and Contents The U.S. Army Rehabilitation Center located in Turlock, California, was open from 1942-1945 for the purpose of imprisoning and rehabilitating U.S. Army military found to be in violation of military regulations of the time. Carling Malouf was working on his doctorate in anthropology at Columbia University when he was called to military duty. Scope and Contents The Nestorian Stele/Monument rubbing was donated by Dr. Samuel Ayoubkhani, who purchased the rubbing at an antiquarian shop in London when he was a student. The original monument from which the rubbing was created is thought to have been erected in 781 C.E., and is a stone slab of sub-granular oolitic limestone.
