Scope and Contents The Nestorian Stele/Monument rubbing was donated by Dr. Samuel Ayoubkhani, who purchased the rubbing at an antiquarian shop in London when he was a student. The original monument from which the rubbing was created is thought to have been erected in 781 C.E., and is a stone slab of sub-granular oolitic limestone. The front face of the original slab is occupied by Chinese inscriptions, in prose and verse, of approximately 2000 words followed by a much shorter inscription in Syriac...
